Taking Care of Yourself Boot Camp | Healthy Aging Series: S12 Teaser
Have you ever been to a Tent Revival or Crusade? I think they still have them. They can be frightening. I mean, after all, weren’t they designed to scare you? Kind of?
Billy Graham is the evangelist that I remember watching on TV back in the 70s and 80s.
He warned his audience that we were living in the End Times.
“We see the storm clouds gathering,” he warned, “and events taking place that herald the Second Coming of Jesus Christ.”
“We are like people under a sentence of death,” he preached, “waiting for the date to be set. We sense that something is about to happen, we know things cannot go on as they are. History has reached an impasse. We are now on a collision course. Something is about to give.”
Something is about to give.
There was something prescient about those warnings.
I do not agree with Graham’s Pre-millennial-Dispensational interpretation of the New Testament.
For that matter, I am not a Christian and I do not believe we are living in the End Times.
But, I do believe that people in the future will look back and see these times, this past decade or two, as a very turbulent era, as perilous times.
I’m going to offer you a way not out of, but through, these perilous times.
I’m calling Season 12, the “Taking Care of Yourself Boot Camp”
I’m sharing 30 episodes from the Harvard Health Annual. This is a wonderful compendium of articles that provides expert advice and practical guidance on lots of health issues and wellness topics. Of course, I’ll give my spin on these articles.
Here are some of the titles for the upcoming episodes:
- 10 habits for Perilous Times
- How to Connect with your Superpowers
- How to Defuse your Ticking Time Bomb
- How to Navigate the Dementia Minefield
- The Absentmindedness Apocalypse
- Your Dog (and Kitties) Will Help you Through These Last Days
- There Really is a Fountain of Youth
- You Really Can Outrun Mad Max
- How to Avoid Falling into the Slough of Despair
- How to Take a Fall and Never Skip a Beat
- Using Smart Tech to Stay Alive
That’s the first 10 episodes.
I’ve tried to stick with the Perilous Times theme because, well, because I do believe we are living in perilous times, and I think we can do something about it.
I preach a lot about the body/mind connection. Healthy body, healthy mind.
I also remind folks about the dichotomy of control, which I gathered from the Stoic philosophers.
This philosophy teaches that there are things that we can control and things we cannot control.
I do not believe we have much control over these perilous times. There’s very little that you and I as individuals can do about the politics and economics of our country.
But what we do have control over, at least some control over, is our mental and physical health. And that’s what I’m going to help you focus on during these next 30 to 40 weeks.
Just think, you can look forward to each new episode as a way of surviving. I’ve called this episode the Taking Care of Yourself Boot Camp, but it’s also survival Boot Camp.
Join me as we work at building a stronger you.
