Frequently Asked Questions

Where are the True North Counseling offices located?

You can find True North Counseling at 8910 Greeneway Commons Place, Suite 100, Louisville, KY 40220. We are near the corner of Hurstbourne Parkway and Taylorsville Road.

How do I schedule an appointment at True North Counseling?

You can call 502-777-7525 to schedule a therapy appointment with the counselors at True North Counseling.

What is the Intake Process?

When you call for counseling services, you will be given an initial intake appointment with Mark Neese, the Clinical Director. During this appointment, he will do a thorough assessment and develop a person-centered treatment plan with you.

If you are unable to pay the standard rate for treatment, a fee based on a sliding scale will be determined.

Mark will help you determine which Clinician is a good fit for your individualized needs and set a follow-up appointment with that Clinician.

What is your cancellation policy?

We ask that you cancel at least 24 hours prior to your appointment at True North Counseling so that we have enough time to fill your appointment block with another client.

Do you accept insurance?

Currently, we accept Passport MCO, Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield MCO, and Well Care-MCO. We will update this list as we accept more insurance providers.

How much does therapy cost?

The standard rate for Therapy sessions is $95 for a 50-minute session whether you’re coming individually, as a couple, or family.

Acceptable forms of payment include credit card, Health Savings Accounts, and Flexible Spending Accounts. At True North, we collect payment for sessions at the beginning of each session.

As mentioned earlier, if you cannot afford the standard rate for therapy sessions, a sliding fee will be assigned during the initial-intake appointment.

Another option for treatment is to be seen by Graduate Student Interns. These Interns are students in one of the many Masters of Social Work programs in the state. They can provide limited and highly supervised treatment as well as group therapy and education.

How often will I meet with my therapist?

Initially, therapists at True North Counseling schedule weekly appointments. As in-session progress is made, therapists will taper the sessions.

The frequency of therapy depends on your current situation. Research shows that 8 -12 sessions are, on average, the number of sessions needed to see long-term improvement for people.

Most clients at True North Counseling report feeling a healthy and noticeable change take place after 4-6 sessions. Some clients need fewer sessions while others need more. It all depends on who you are and the problems you’re facing. We encourage people to come for weekly sessions in the beginning so that they can gain some momentum on tackling the issues at hand.  This works particularly well for clients who feel like they are in a crisis or dealing with more intense issues.

What if my out of control teenager has no interest in coming to therapy and refuses? Can you still help?

Do what you can to bring them with you. It will be our job during that initial session to help them see the importance of coming to the second session. Otherwise, come in alone and we will provide consultation, support and a strategy to get them here.

How can I get my family to agree to family therapy?

It can take time for all family members to understand the importance of family therapy. Love and acceptance are helpful for encouraging growth and commitment to this process.

Sometimes, however, you may simply need to come in by yourself and get some support and help to improve your coping and mindfulness skills. We have found that when one person in the family system starts getting help, the family changes and improvements take place. Not always, but we can provide you support and encouragement through the process whatever the outcome.
