About True North Counseling

We define ‘True North’ as the place where you are at peace with yourself and others. We find it through loving ourselves and others and through acceptance.

Our purpose at True North Counseling is to help people overcome barriers and obstacles that prevent them from finding their True North. We serve as guides on this journey.

It isn’t that people are lost, but with all of the chaos and stress in this world, people lose sight of the path that leads to peace and contentment. They suffer and their relationships suffer.

The therapists at True North Counseling have many years of experience doing Individual and Family Therapy. We believe in a mindful, holistic approach and hold certifications and degrees that address the spiritual, mental, fitness, and nutritional needs of our clients.

Troubled Teens

We focus on working with Families and Troubled Teens. All of us have experience with teens with high-intensity behaviors and substance abuse issues. We have Board Certified Behavior Analysts on staff, who are Licensed Clinicians, with expertise and experience in family therapy to address family conflict.

We also work with Teenagers who simply seemed to have lost their way. They are being called IGens (Internet Generation). They have lost their connection with others and themselves at the expense of “screen time.” We help children and teens get better connected with themselves and the present through Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Behavior Therapy. This is done in a group setting and helps to teach teens healthy coping mechanisms for stress and anxiety.

We also use several evidence-based approaches to help heal family relationships including: Family Therapy, Couples Therapy, Transactional Analysis, and Parent Management Training. We take an “Easy does it” approach in our sessions to promote mutual respect and growth.

Anxiety and Depression

All of our Therapist are experienced with treating Anxiety, Depression, and Bipolar Disorder. Our treatments include:

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy
  • Behavioral Activation Therapy
  • Logotherapy
  • Expressive Therapy.

Stress Management and Mindfulness

One of the key components of our work at True North Counseling is to teach people to manage their stress.

We utilize several holistic approaches to address stress management including:

  • mindfulness training
  • nature therapy
  • meditation techniques
  • physical fitness regimes
  • diet management

We have staff members who are also Fitness Professionals, as well as a Health Coach, in order to attend to the “body-mind” connection.  We also have a Certified Holistic Nutritionist to provide guidance for a diet that promotes better health.
